Strengthening Regional Connectivity through Engineering,
Infrastructure and Investment
The Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) represents a dynamic subregional cooperation framework aimed at accelerating economic development, strengthening connectivity, and enhancing cross-border collaboration among its member provinces. As the region continues to evolve, the demand for infrastructure development, industrial expansion, and integrated economic growth has increased significantly.
Engineering plays a critical role in translating development strategies into implementable projects. However, a key challenge remains in bridging the gap between engineering concepts and investment-ready infrastructure projects, particularly in cross-border contexts where coordination, financing structures, and stakeholder alignment are essential.
In response to this need, the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Penang Branch is organising the IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention 2026 as a strategic platform to connect engineering, investment, and regional development priorities
The IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention (EEC) 2026 aims to serve as a regional platform to strengthen collaboration between governments, development banks, investors, engineering professionals, and industry leaders in advancing infrastructure development and economic growth within the IMT-GT subregion.
Support IMT-GT development priorities in infrastructure, connectivity, and economic corridors
Facilitate engagement between governments, investors, and industry stakeholders
Promote the development of bankable and investment-ready infrastructure projects
Encourage private sector participation in regional development initiatives
Strengthen collaboration across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand
This convention is
positioned as:
A regional platform linking policy, engineering, and investment.
A gateway for international companies to access IMT-GT opportunities
A connector between project owners, financiers, and solution providers

Promote engineering investment opportunities within IMT-GT

Facilitate dialogue between governments, investors, and industry

Encourage cross-border project collaboration

Support regional economic development and connectivity initiatives

The IMT-GT Engineering Economy Convention 2026 is designed to serve as a catalyst for regional collaboration, bridging the gap between engineering expertise and investment execution. By bringing together key stakeholders across the IMT-GT subregion, the convention aims to unlock new opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and support the next phase of sustainable economic growth.
